In-Plant Printing Management

A few simple steps allow the Retailer / Brand Owner (R/BO) to manage and distribute purchase order information for worry free in-plant tag and label production:

Step 1 – Provide Data To Avery Dennison
Retailer / Brand Owner (R/BO) delivers purchase orders which contain all variable data necessary to print the tags and labels. SKU level data can be provided on a per order basis, as a database, or as a live look-up table maintained at the R/BO. Our global data management system allows price changes to be updated, globally distributed and printed in a matter of hours. In addition, any data made available for in-plant printing can also drive Avery Dennison Service Bureau printing globally - providing customers with production flexibility.

Step 2 - Design Tag and Label Layouts
Once the data is available, the R/BO must determine how that data will be used. Avery Dennison can help design "formats" which instruct the printer where the variable data goes on the ticket. Once the R/BO approves the formats, Avery Dennison distributes them to factories which automatically import into the in-plant printing software. Centralized layouts ensure consistency, security, and the ability to change a format globally virtually over night.

Step 3 – Deliver Data
To End Users Authorized users / operators receive usernames and passwords to ensure secure and controlled access to R/BO programs, formats, and data. Once logged in, operators have two ways to obtain the data and formats needed to produce the tickets;

1) Download: R/BO can assign a factory number in the purchase order data and Avery Dennison will send or “push” the order down to the factory automatically. The data imports into the in-plant printing software and is immediately ready to print.

2) Call Out: When the R/BO does not specify a factory in the supplied data, the factory can still log in, enter the purchase order number supplied by the R/BO, and automatically receive the data. This is known as “pull.”

The method of data delivery depends on the amount of specific data the R/BO can provide in the download. If factory number is available, the data can go directly to the factory. If not, the factory can log in and request the data. Either way, the data delivery is quick and easy.
