RFID In Fashion 2008 Conference
Avery Dennison President and CEO Addresses RFID in FASHION 2008 Conference
Dean A. Scarborough, president and chief executive officer of Avery Dennison Corporation, hosted a special presentation and discussion during the RFID in Fashion 2008’s Leadership Forum in New York City, an invitation-only event for senior-level executives from retail, apparel, footwear and accessories companies.
In addition to Scarborough, two other Avery Dennison executives, James Stafford, head of RFID adoption, and Rick Bauer, director of product management, participated in the presentation. The presentation took place on August 13th at the Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC. Avery Dennison was the Cornerstone Sponsor of the RFID in Fashion 2008 Conference.
The Leadership Forum presentation addressed how apparel producers can start small with minimum RFID investment and rapidly achieve a return on investment. In addition, the speakers covered total RFID solutions, implementations and ROI, and provided an overview of Avery Dennison’s global infrastructure and network of partnerships with expert RFID vendors. Partnerships with companies such as Vue Technology and Motorola enable Avery Dennison to deliver total RFID solutions and help customers gain a competitive advantage during these challenging trading times. The presentation included summaries of RFID case studies that focused on active programs of retailers and brand owners across the globe.
Avery Dennison also hosted an invitation-only cocktail reception that evening. It was held in partnership with Vue Technology and Motorola at a separate venue, 230 Fifth, located at 230 Fifth Ave., NYC.
Throughout the two-day RFID in Fashion 2008 event, Avery Dennison hosted visitors in their exhibit space with product demonstrations and discussions devoted to RFID in apparel/retail. Visitors were able to experience the mini-store Demo-Pod, a kiosk-like structure with hardware and software from Vue Technology that permits users to engage in virtually every key aspect of item-level RFID. Avery Dennison specialists were on hand to explain Avery Dennison’s Item-level RFID ROI Analysis Program and to discuss successful item-level programs in place at major retailers, including Marks & Spencer, American Apparel and Throttleman.
According to Dean Scarborough, “More and more retailers are starting to look seriously at RFID, and the central issue is nearly always ROI. We realize that embarking on an RFID implementation can seem like an overwhelming task; but the fact of the matter is that you can start small and still achieve big. We can work with you to implement an RFID pilot on an item or a department level in order to prove the ROI before you commit to a larger implementation.
