Avery Dennison Sponsors Student Fashion Shows At Two Elite Hong Kong Educational Institutions
FRAMINGHAM, Mass.—July 20, 2009— Underscoring its strong commitment to education and creativity in fashion and design, Avery Dennison recently sponsored student fashion shows at two highly regarded Hong Kong educational institutions—the Institute of Textile & Clothing (ITC), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University; and the Hong Kong Design Institute, VTC.
The annual runway shows highlight original fashion collections created by students at both institutions and have a long and successful history of identifying emerging fashion-industry talents. This year’s shows took place respectively on June 17 and June 24, 2009.
“As a leading provider of apparel- and fashion-related brand ID solutions, Avery Dennison recognizes its responsibilities to the fashion community in Hong Kong and throughout Asia,” said Ronald Wong, Avery Dennison manager, marketing communications – Asia,. “The graduate fashion shows provide a great opportunity for us to encourage talented young designers and to reward innovation and originality.”
This is the second consecutive year that Avery Dennison has participated as an event sponsor with Wong serving on the judges’ panel at the ITC, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, event. Avery Dennison sponsored the show’s Overall Grand Award and First Runner-up Award.
At the Hong Kong Design Institute, Vocational Training Council, event, Avery Dennison’s Boon Ho, regional vice president, sales and marketing, presented the show’s Grand Prize award.
“Attendees and judges at both shows were quite impressed with the high quality of the creations on display,” said Ho. “The students’ enthusiasm and the flair and originality of their fashion designs more than justified Avery Dennison’s involvement as a sponsor.”
Avery Dennison has a long tradition of supporting educational programs in China and other countries where it has operations. In June, the Avery Dennison Foundation announced that it had awarded educational grants to 16 students at four universities in China as part of the InvEnt scholarship program, which encourages innovation and entrepreneurship among university students in China.
